Guide

Start by creating a list of days of the year in a random order. The easiest way to do this is by using the RAND() function in Excel or Google Sheets.

I've set up a spreadsheet for you to use here:

Random day of the year generator

The 'random numbers' column will be populated with a new sequence of random numbers each time you load the sheet so there's no need to worry about making any edits.

If you're using this for the first time, you can skip step 1 as the days in year are already randomly sorted.

  1. Either copy the sheet to your Google Drive and sort it there or select cells B2:C67, starting with cell C2. Then go to Data > Sort range by column C, A → Z.
  2. Copy the days in year onto your clipboard. I've found that Notion doesn't like it if you copy 365 days worth of cells and past them into the 'Quotes (change each day)' table so you might have to copy and paste 182 days at a time.
  3. Select the first cell in the Quote column, then press escape to highlight the cell, then paste using ctrl + v or cmd + v.

🎉 Your quotes have now been assigned a random day of the year. When the day of the year matches the day from today's date, that quote will be displayed in your linked database.

I created this guide on day 279 of the year so if you're looking at this a couple of days later, the table in Today's quote will be empty.
